Do Not Become the Obstacle
“Let us not therefore judge one another any more: but judge this rather, that no man put a stumblingblock or an occasion to fall in his brother's way. Let us therefore follow after the things which make for peace, and things wherewith one may edify another.”
Romans 14:13, 19 (KJV)
Paul addressed believers who were judging one another over food and sacred days. He did not erase moral discernment. He confronted contempt and personal freedom used carelessly in ways that could injure another believer’s walk.
Someone may enter a church carrying rejection, limited education, poverty, or a disability that affects communication. If our impatience, ridicule, favoritism, or unnecessary rules make it harder for that person to grow in Christ, the problem is not simply their maturity. Our character also needs formation.
Maturity asks more than, “Am I allowed to do this?” It asks, “Does my conduct strengthen another person?” Peace is not silence about abuse, dishonesty, or harm. Biblical edification joins truth with love and accountability with humility.
Formation Friday requires an honest review of our influence. We cannot control every response, but we can remove needless obstacles, correct harmful habits, and make room for people to learn.
Walk It Out
Identify one attitude, custom, or response that may discourage another person. Replace it today with one truthful, respectful, and strengthening action.
Prayer
Father, search our conduct and remove pride, favoritism, and careless influence. Form Christlike character in us so our words and choices strengthen others in truth. Give us humility to change. In Jesus’ name, amen.
