“Why is my pain perpetual, and my wound incurable, which refuseth to be healed? wilt Thou be altogether unto me as a liar, and as waters that fail? Therefore thus saith the LORD, If thou return, then will I bring thee again, and thou shalt stand before Me: and if thou take forth the precious from the vile, thou shalt be as My mouth: let them return unto thee; but return not thou unto them.”
Jeremiah 15:18–19, KJV; reverential capitalization applied
Jeremiah’s anguish became a question about God’s faithfulness. He had served and suffered, and his pain shaped what he said about the Lord. God called the prophet to return and separate what was precious from what was unworthy. This promise concerned Jeremiah’s prophetic service; our application is to bring sorrow honestly and remain teachable before God.
There is room to bring your sorrow honestly before God. Yet honesty also requires listening when He corrects the conclusions you have drawn in that sorrow. Pain can explain your struggle without becoming the authority over your beliefs or your conduct.
Today, ask the Lord to examine what disappointment has been producing in you. Have bitter words taken the place of faithful prayer? Have you begun to compromise because obedience feels costly? His correction calls you back to a faithful relationship with Him.
Receive the invitation to return. Tell the truth about your hurt, surrender the accusation, and take the next obedient step. You do not have to resolve every question before you respond to what God has already made clear.
Walk It Out
Name one conclusion you have drawn from disappointment. Bring it before God, examine it through Scripture, and choose one faithful response.
Prayer
Father, receive our honest prayers and correct what pain has distorted in us. Purify our words, strengthen our trust, and help us return to obedience. Give us humility to hear You and courage to follow You. In Jesus’ name, amen.
